Comparing distance-decay parameters: A novel test under pairwise dependence
نویسندگان
چکیده
Distance-decay models fit parametric functions to assess the relationship between similarity and spatial or environmental distance. Despite widespread use of distance-decay in ecology biogeography, no method has been previously developed validated significance differences parameters (i.e. intercept slope) two models. The pairwise autocorrelation distance affects variance parameter estimates, precluding ordinary t-tests. Here, we provide a test statistic (zdep) for equality can be applied, independently, any model and/or slopes). zdep accounts dependence, thus avoiding biases associated inflation degrees freedom, it is based on estimation parameters' using site-block resampling. To validate statistic, type I II errors were empirically evaluated through simulation study. We simulated six scenarios (three under null three alternative hypothesis) relationships different functions: negative exponential, power-law Gompertz function. applied computed proportion rejections hypothesis α = 0.01, 0.05 0.1 each scenario. As case-study, also compared across several groups Iberian vertebrates (cyprinids, frogs, lizards snakes, bats, rodents carnivores). In study, showed good approximation nominal level (α, error) statistical power (1 − error), later increasing with sample size, as expected. vertebrates, found significant ectotherms endotherms, but not within these except cyprinids other ectotherms. performance makes best option obtained from fitted data It used beyond approaches compare regression dependent (as genetic distances, example).

A Novel Spectral Clustering Method Based on Pairwise Distance Matrix
In general, the similarity measure is indispensable for most traditional spectral clustering algorithms since these algorithms typically begin with the pairwise similarity matrix of a given dataset. However, a general type of input for most clustering applications is the pairwise distance matrix. In this paper, we propose a distance-based spectral clustering method which makes no assumption on ...
متن کاملA Novel Algorithm for Digital Distance Relaying
Distance relays are used to protect EHV and HV Transmission lines. Over the past decades many algorithms have emerged for digital distance relays. These are based on the calculation of the transmission line impedance from the relaying to fault points. In this paper a novel method for digital distance relaying is proposed. In the method the tracking procedure is implemented. The method uses the ...

متن کاملA General Test For Time-dependence in Parameters
We propose a new test based on a Fourier series to approximate the unknown form of a nonlinear time-series model. The test has good size and power properties to detect structural breaks, seasonal parameters and random coefficients. Moreover, it has reasonable power to discriminate between nonlinearity in variables and nonlinearity in parameters. We use the test to show that U.S. inflation is ap...
متن کاملDistance dependence and salt sensitivity of pairwise, coulombic interactions in a protein.
Histidine pK(a) values were measured in charge-reversal (K78E, K97E, K127E, and K97E/K127E) and charge-neutralization (E10A, E101A, and R35A) mutants of staphylococcal nuclease (SNase) by (1)H-NMR spectroscopy. Energies of interaction between pairs of charges (DeltaG(ij)) were obtained from the shifts in pK(a) values relative to wild-type values. The data describe the distance dependence and sa...
